Adding/Updating Languages
To add or update a language to LiquidFiles, please go to Admin → System → Locales. Please note that Locales (Languages) are system wide so in case you have multiple domains, the same locales will be available across domains.
If you want to change anything in the default supplied English locale, please go to Admin → System → Locales and click "Edit" next to the English locale. You only need to update anything you want to change, i.e. just because you want to change "Logout" to "Logout Now" it does not mean you have to add every other value.
The easiest way to locate the field you want to change is to open `find` in your browser and search for the string you want to change.
Locale Exchange
LiquidFiles is only distributed with default English language. Some customers generously provided other languages that are available on the LiquidFiles forum: https://forum.liquidfiles.com/forums/translation-and-locale-files.10/.
If you add another language, please update your language file to: https://forum.liquidfiles.com/forums/translation-and-locale-files.10/. so that others may use it as well. Thanks in advance for your contribution.
Setting what language to use
You can set a default locale by going to Admin → Configuration → Settings.
Users can set their own language by clicking on Account Settings.
Autodetecting Languages
LiquidFiles has the ability to set what locale to use based on what the browser sends as its preferred language. This needs to be enabled in Admin → Configuration → Settings and is enabled by default.
The way the automatic langage detection works is that browsers can be configured to send a preferred list of languages. This language is specified either as a main language type or as langage with subtype:
- fr-CA: Canadian French. The main language type is French, with Canadian as it's subtype.
- fr: French. Just the main language French. No subtype.
Language Fallback
LiquidFiles uses Locale fallback using the formula xx-YY → xx → en. Or using an example of real langugages as example: fr-CA → fr → en, for Canadian French falling back to French, and French falling back to English.
So with this example, if you have installed a French locale as 'fr' (and nothing else). If a browser sends 'fr', 'fr-CA', 'fr-CH', 'fr-FR' or anything else beginning with 'fr', the French locale you have uploaded will be used.
In case you want to use subtypes, you can upload the default French locale as 'fr' and then add for instance a Canadian French 'fr-CA' locale as well. In the 'fr-CA' language, you only need to add whatever is different from regular French.
All email templates are available in Admin → Configuration → Email Templates.
Please note that it's not possible to use different languages in Emails when sending to different users.
While this would be desirable there's simply no support for it in email standards or email clients. The way it would have to work, if it ever gets added, is that same as we send both an html version and a plain text version of each email and the email client can choose which one to display, we would also have to send a html.en, html.fr, html.sv, plain.en, plain.fr, plain.sv, ... version of each email. But unfortunately, currently this doesn't work.
You can have different emails for different domains though.
