File Size Limits

There are no built-in limitations for how large files you can send with LiquidFiles, and you can specify your own administrative limitations as required. The available limitations are:

Setting Applies to Description
Max File Size Messages, FileLinks, File Requests You can specify the Max File Size either individually for a user in Admin → Users, or on a per Group basis in Admin → Groups, as Max Combined File Size in the Size & Quota tab.
The Max Files Size is the combined Max File Size for a message. So if you configure a Limit of 1000 MB then you can attach 2x500 MB files but not 3x500 MB files.
This configuration affects Secure Messages, FileLinks and File Requests.
Filedrop Max File Size User Filedrops User Filedrops can be limited on a per group basis in Admin → Groups, in the Filedrop tab. This will affect User Filedrops only (something like https://yourliquidfilesurl.com/filedrop/user@company.com).
Filedrop Max File Size System Filedrops System Filedrops, configured in Admin → Configuration → Filedrops, have individual max file size configuration. This is a combined max file size per Filedrop message so when someone visits the Filedrop, if you have a configuration that the max file size for this Filedrop is 1000 MB, a sender can attach 2x500 MB files but not 3x500 MB files.
Per User Quota Messages, FileLinks, File Requests, User Filedrops The Per User Quota is the max amount of file size space a user can consume within LiquidFiles. This is configured on a per group basis in Admin → Groups. If you set this to 10,000 MB, each user in this group can send Secure Messages, create FileLinks, receive File Requests and receive Filedrop messages up to a total of 10,000 MB.
Group Quota Messages, FileLinks, File Requests, User Filedrops The Group Quota is the max amount of file size space all users in the specified group can consume within LiquidFiles. This is configured on a per group basis in Admin → Groups. If you set this to 10,000 MB, all user in this group can send Secure Messages, create FileLinks, receive File Requests and receive Filedrop messages up to a total of 10,000 MB.
Domain Quota All data within a domain The Domain Quota is applicable in mult-domain configurations, configured in Admin → System → Domains.
Specifying a Domain Quota enables you to limit the amount of data each domain can consume within LiquidFiles.
Disk Space All Data It's not possible to store more data than what's available on the physical or logical disk assigned to LiquidFiles. If you need to expand the available disk space, please see the Expand Disk size guide.

This limits are subtractive — the smallest limit will always apply.

Examples
Configured Limits Actual Limit Comments
User Max File Size: 10,000 MB
Per User Quota: 0
Group Quota: 0
Available Disk Space: 20 TB
10,000 MB per message Each User can send Secure Messages, create FileLinks, receive File Requests & Filedrops, each 10,000 MB per Secure Message, FileLink, File Request & Filedrop until the disk space of 20 TB is consumed.
User Max File Size: 1,000 MB
Per User Quota: 10,000 MB
Group Quota: 0
Available Disk Space: 20 TB
1,000 MB per message, up to Max 10,000 MB Total Each User can send Secure Messages, create FileLinks, receive File Requests & Filedrops, each 1,000 MB per Secure Message, FileLink, File Request & Filedrop until their quota of 10,000 MB or the disk space of 20 TB is consumed.
User Max File Size: 10,000 MB
Per User Quota: 1000 MB
Group Quota: 0
Available Disk Space: 20 TB
1000 MB per message and 1000 MB in total. Eventhough the User Max File Size is 10,000 MB, the max available quota for that user is 1000 MB so the max File Size that can be sent will be 1000 MB (unless the user has sent or received any other files that consume data out of the 1000 MB allocated quota).
User Max File Size: 1000 MB
Per User Quota: 1000 MB
Used Disk Space: 500 MB
Group Quota: 0
Available Disk Space: 20 TB
500 MB, up to 1000 MB in total If a user already has 500 MB messages, FileLinks, ... sent, there's only 500 MB left of their quota.
User Max File Size: 10,000 MB
Per User Quota: 100,000 MB
Group Quota: 0
Available Disk Space: 1000 MB
1000 MB, until more Messages, FileLinks, ... expire or more disk space is made available. Eventhough the User Max File Size and quota is larger, if you only have 1000 MB of available disk space, that would be the max file size you can use.
User Filedrop Max File Size: 10,000 MB
Per User Quota: 1000 MB
Group Quota: 0
Available Disk Space: 20 TB
1000 MB for this Filedrop, and 1000 MB in total for this user. Eventhough the User Filedrop Max File Size is larger, the users quota is 1000 MB, the maximum file size for the User Filedrop will be 1000 MB (assuming the user doesn't have any other Messages, Filelinks, ... that consume data out of their quota).
User Max File Size: 0
Per User Quota: 0
Group Quota: 0
Available Disk Space: 20 TB
20 TB in total. If you remove all Administrative Limits, you can send files up to all of the available disk space. In this example, you could send a 20 TB file with LiquidFiles.
